true life: sorority edition

Just got done with my recruitment retreat. 20 women, at my house, living and breathing recruitment for 24 hours. It was amazing.

We also did our introduction program to the Gamma experience, a new programming system that our international headquarters rolled out in June. We have this really cool thing in Alpha Gamma Delta called a purpose, and it’s 10 lines of awesomeness that outlines our values. Gamma goes through the purpose line by line and digs really deep into it and really shows you how to live these values in every day life. The intro program was all about finding out what your individual values are and seeing how they align with AGD’s values. Perfect to talk about during recruitment, since we are very in to values-based recruiting.

One portion of the program was how to use your values to make a decision. One of my sisters raised her hand and said that a decision she had to make was “whether or not to cut out one of her extra curricular.” Knowing this sister and what she is currently experiencing, most of us in the room knew that she was talking about quitting sorority. The way she spun it, she made it sound as though it would be a good thing for her to do because it would help her “love” value (aka she wanted to spend more time with her boyfriend) and her “academics” value. It really, really hurt me that she would stand up in front of our chapter and justify quitting something that I value and cherish so much. I posted earlier about how I didn’t like how people quit everything so easily, and I guess this just goes along with it.

Whoa, sorry for such a long post.
